What makes Seville special

Why is the Torre del Oro called the Tower of Gold?
Its old Arabic name speaks of a golden shine that the tower cast on the river. For a long time, people thought tiles made it glow. Then repair work showed the shine came from a mix of lime mortar and pressed straw. Source: Spanish Navy, checked .
How could people ride a horse up the Giralda?
The Giralda was built as a minaret. Inside, ramps climb up between a square core and the outer walls. The tower is so big that the ramps even let riders go up on horseback. Source: Seville Cathedral, checked .
Why does a saint in a cathedral painting have a scar?
Long ago, a thief hid in the cathedral at night. He climbed up and cut the kneeling saint out of a huge Murillo painting. Months later, a dealer in New York knew the piece at once and helped send it home. You can still spot the cut. Source: Visita Sevilla, checked .
Why do Roman columns on Calle Mármoles stand in a pit?
Three tall Roman columns from an old temple still stand on this narrow street. Their bases sit in a pit far below the street. Over time, dirt and new buildings slowly raised the city up around them. Two more now stand at the Alameda de Hércules. Source: Visita Sevilla, checked .
What is the giant tree in the Cartuja gardens?
It is an ombú. This kind of tree comes from the plains of South America. Long ago, the son of Columbus planted its seeds in the garden of a monastery here. The tree has lived through big floods. It even lived through a pottery works. Source: Visita Sevilla, checked .
Does the Alcázar belong to the Crown or to the city?
Both, in a way. When the Castilians took the city long ago, the palace became a seat of the Crown. It also became a place of city power. The palace history says it has kept both roles right up to the present day. Source: Real Alcázar de Sevilla, checked .
