Why are there piles of paper cranes in the peace park?
They honor Sadako, a young girl who fell ill from the bomb and died. Before she passed, she dreamed of folding a thousand cranes. An old saying grants a wish for that many. People still fold cranes and leave them by her statue. Source: Wikipedia, checked .

How did a cheap pancake help Hiroshima after the bomb?
Before the war, a thin pancake topped with green onions was a hit here. After the bomb, it gave survivors a cheap meal. The usual fillings were hard to get, so cooks used what they had. It became okonomiyaki, cooked how you like it. Source: Wikipedia, checked .
How soon did Hiroshima's trams run again after the bomb?
The bomb wrecked or hurt nearly all of the city's trams. Yet within days, trams ran again. A few trams from that time still carry riders. The trams come from all over Japan and Europe, so the network has a nickname: the Moving Streetcar Museum. Source: Wikipedia, checked .
Why is the oleander the flower of Hiroshima?
Some trees lived through the bomb. People call them survivor trees. A willow on the Ota River bank fell, but new buds grew from its roots. The oleander was made the city's flower for being so full of life. Source: Wikipedia, checked .
